THEME: "Gunung Murud-Kelabit Highlands Adventure 2006" Unearthing the Highlanders of Northern Sarawak. OBJECTIVE: This special event is predominantly held in conjunction with the celebration of 43rd Malaysia National Day on 31st August 2006. Its objective is to stress and promote the tourist destination of the interior highlands of Northern Sarawak and making it a centre of focus for nature lovers, mountaineers and highland trekkers by allowing them to get the thrill and feel the tranquility in this adventurous and challenging activity, as well as to introduce and encourage this healthy event among the our local enthusiasts and bring them to a touch of the exquisiteness and attractiveness of nature and having direct contact with the highlanders and understand their primordial culture and their way of life. ITINERARY DAY 1 on 31st Aug 2006 (Thursday) All participants are advised to assemble at Lawas Town at 7.00am. Journey takes off at 7.30am SHARP! Transfer by 4WD to Pa'Rabata (Jungle Hut) takes about 4 ½ hrs-5 hrs. Hiking begins on a deserted timber road for 2 hours to Lepo Bunga jungle hut. Jungle trekking and ascend headed to Church camp "The Holy Mountain" will take 3 hours. Overnight at Church Camp B/L/D (at your own) DAY 2 on 1st Sept 2006 (Friday) Early ascend to Murud Summit @ 7.30am for 3 hours hike. Enjoy the 360° view of endless mile green mountains at the summit overlooking Bario Highland village, Kalimantan Apo Duat Range, Tama Abu Range, Mulu Summit, Twin Peak of Malaysia Batu Lawi. Group photo will be taken on the Summit. Descend back to Rock Garden for spectacular view of rocks formation with various sharp depending on your own imagination. Photograph shooting Competition. "Best shot of the day" Return to Church camp for the 2nd night stay. B/L/D (at your own) DAY 3 on 2nd Sept 2006 (Saturday) Longest trekking of the day begins at 6.00am. Return to Batu Linanit through plank walk, a detour down hill slope to Sungai Belaban/Long Repung/Pa'Lungan for about 8-10 hours. ETA 4.00-5.00pm at Pa'Lungan. A Kelabit village that produces the best rice in the region of Bario. Have a clean wash for after 3 days of exhausted hiking. Putting up overnight at Batu Ritung Lodge at Pa'Lungan. B/L/D (dinner provided at Lodge) DAY 4 on 3rd Sept 2006 (Sunday) Early breakfast at 5.00am, at 5.40am with a short detour to Batu Ritung for 10 minutes and hiking heading to Pa'Ukat for 2 hours.(Sandal can be used for foot relaxation after few days of hiking.) ETA 8.30am-9.00am. Transfer by 4WD for 20 minutes to Bario. "The Kelabit Highlands" Unbelievable! ICT e-Bario and public satellite phone are able to link you with the outside world. Hikers who take the morning flight depart at 10.00am from Bario have to leave Pa'Lungan at 5.00am. Journey ended at Miri. Breakfast provided at Batu Ritung Lodge including airfare to Miri. Lunch at Bario on your own. Option 1 Participants who arrived early at Lawas before noon on 30th August can visit Merarap Hot Spring Lodge (2 hours by 4WD) for extra cost of RM120/pax at group of 5.( at the same cost overnight at Lawas instead and will meet again on the 31st August morning headed on to the same destination) Option 2 Closing ceremony night & certificate presentation. Participants who wish to stay a night on 3rd Sept. at Bario are advised to make their booking in advance for the accommodation & air ticket.
